And for him to come out his senior year and win his home meet, I’m just proud and happy for him.”
Malachi Ricks took third place for the boys with 16:33.0. Arthur Hawks landed in ninth place at 17:32.8.
Kylah Ricks zoomed into first place for the Lady Red Devils in 18:54.4 – 90 seconds faster than the second place finisher from Monticello.

Senior Jessie Anderson came in seventh with 22:50.5. Bella Welch placed ninth for the Lady Devils at 23:01.5.
“Bella Welch has worked her tail off since track and field ended in June. We’ve been training since June and she came out here and finished ninth … outstanding, just outstanding,” said Martin. “Anika Scherer with a third place finish, I am proud of that young lady. Her first meet of the year, she comes in third, she’s an outstanding athlete. Good meet. The teams worked really, really hard … and they deserve the awards they got today.”
The Grand County Middle School Thunderbirds also participated in the meet. Connor Swasey placed 12th with 11:24.2 in the boys junior high division.
