The U.S. Department of Energy invites the public to celebrate a cleanup milestone at the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action site north of downtown from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Lions Park at the intersection of Highway 191 and Highway 128.
The UMTRA project began in 2009 when it began to ship tailings to disposal cells in Crescent Junction. The 10-million-ton mark will be reached this month.
Roughly 6 million tons of legacy uranium remains at the site as the project continues into the future.
