False positive: Vaping pens at high school retested, show no presence of meth

After the Grand County School District retested vaping devices that it recently found at the high school, a prior test that showed positive for methamphetamine was overturned to negative. The retest confirmed a positive test for THC, which is the primary psychoactive component of marijuana.

“Since the original incidents were reported, the schools have facilitated an open dialogue with students and parents about the medical consequences and risks of vaping,” a spokesperson for the school district said in a press release. “Some students have voluntarily turned in their vaping devices and parents with concerns about their student(s) vaping have sought resources from the schools.”
