Green River hosts Cowboy Day Nov. 2

The City of Green River is presenting what organizers say is their first annual Cowboy Day Nov. 2. Activities will include cowboy action shooting, a horseshoe tournament, dinner, costumes and a concert.

Cowboy-Action Shooting (CAS) is a live ammo amateur shooting sport for all ages. It is a timed competition using original or reproduction firearms from the years 1850 to 1900. Competitors, dressed in costume, will shoot during five to six stages per day.

A stage consists of a “story,” a procedure for shooting an array of targets. A missed target results in a five-second time penalty, and shooting in the wrong order is a ten-second penalty. There are also minor and major safety penalties.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Green River Shooting Sports Park on Old Highway 6. There will also be a horseshoe tournament. A dinner and costume party will occur at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum that evening, followed by a concert.

The event is being put on by the City of Green River in collaboration with Epicenter, the Green River Shooting Sports Park, and Rio Verde Rangers.
