This year proved to host a successful season for the Moab Red Devils mountain biking team, which finished second out of 20 teams in Division Three in Cedar City Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19.

Greg Child said the 16 Moab riders were part of 2,078 competitors from 65 Utah high schools, including 445 girls.

Elijah Topper placed 16th out of those 2,078 riders, earning the most points for the Devils in the last race of his high school career, as did Wyatt Gholson.

Ryder Murdock finished third and Aiden Baird seventh in Boys Junior Varsity B, while Jackson Sorensen finished seventh in Boys Junior Varsity A.

Cora Baird finished 22nd among freshmen girls, and Ariann Child was the team’s third-highest points scorer in Junior Varsity A Girls.

“These amazing kids leave everything out on the race course,” said head coach Colin Topper. “We came home with tired kids, lots of scrapes and bruises, smiles, and a second-place trophy. We couldn’t be more proud.”
