The Grand County varsity football team lost the final game of the regular season 0-34 to the Richfield Wildcats on Oct. 17 in Richfield.

The Red Devils’ record is 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the region.

Richfield played a superior offensive game and the Wildcats earned 359 yards; 232 rushing,127 passing. Richfield’s quarterback Gavin Brown passed the ball at critical moments all evening long for big gains, going 11 for 20.

The Wildcats scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and one in the second, which gave Richfield a commanding 21-0 lead at halftime.

Richfield tacked on another touchdown in the third, but missed the two-point conversion. The Wildcats picked up a final touchdown with a 90-plus-yard dash from Brittyn Riddle with a little more than a minute left in the game.

The Wildcat defense performed just as well as the offense. Grand County turned the ball over on downs four times on fourth and short yardage. Quarterback Bryant Troutt was picked off once. On a drive in the fourth quarter, the Red Devils pushed and powered their way to the five-yard line, but the Wildcats stopped them cold. Joey Cloud had an interception in the fourth quarter for Grand County.

The Red Devils tallied 248 offensive yards. Bryant Troutt had 27 carries for 111 yards, finishing the regular season with nearly 1,300 rushing yards.

Brayden Troutt had eight carries for 42 yards. Cloud racked up six carries for 54 yards and Trea Myer had three carries and a total of 18 yards. Grand had 221 yards rushing for the evening.

Troutt was 2 for 10 on pass attempts for 27 yards. Chance Arbon had a 13-yard reception and Ryelan Jones snagged one pass for 14 yards.

The first round of playoffs is scheduled to start on Friday, Oct. 25. The Devils face the Manti Templars at Manti at 4 p.m.
