Grand County Attorney Christina Sloan on Tuesday advised the Grand County Council it would have to appoint someone to the District 1 seat that will be vacated when Member Terry Morse steps down.

The person would hold the seat until the 2020 election.

The county will publish the notice of declaration of candidacy in The Times-Independent. Interested parties can apply from Nov. 1 through Nov. 15 and the council must make the appointment at its regular Nov. 19 meeting.

Morse was compelled to resign his seat, to which he was elected last year, after he and his wife moved to a home outside of District 1. Only people living in District 1 can apply to fill the vacancy.

Declarations of candidacy can be picked up at the Grand County Clerk-Auditor’s office at the courthouse on Center Street.
