The Richfield Invite on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7, at Richfield High School was a successful meet for the Grand County Swim Team. “We were able to swim against a couple of big teams and hold our own,” coach Brian Pierce said in an e-mail. The Grand boys team took second place out of seven competing schools. The Lady Devils earned third place out of eight competing schools.
Pat Pakkarato finished the boys 100-yard fly in 1:01.10 and took home first place for his efforts. Pakkarato also scored first in the 200-yard individual medley.
“Brendan Moore in the 100 breaststroke had an amazing race,” Pierce said. Moore took first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.66. “Camron Stotz and Stryder Young had two great races,” Pierce added. Stotz earned third in the 500-yard freestyle and Young was right behind him in fourth place.
“Aly Bertoch performed great in the women’s 200 and 500 freestyle,” Pierce said. Bertoch swam the 500-yard free in 7:28.25 and took the big bronze medal for the Devils. Zoe Campbell took fourth in the 500-yard free. Mekker Relph grabbed fourth, Mallory Maughan fifth, Mckenna Thornburg seventh and Kaistin Oliver landed in the 10th spot in the girl’s 100-yard backstroke.
Duncan Clark got fourth in the boys 100-yard back in 1:16.24. Tagert Farnsworth locked up seventh place in that event. Neelie Relph tied with a swimmer from North Sanpete for sixth place in the girls 50-yard freestyle, out of a field of 26 other swimmers.
As a team, Neelie Relph, Bertoch, Campbell and Zoe Warren took third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Bertoch, Maughan, Warren and Neelie Relph earned fourth place in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay.
For the boys, Arthur Hawks, Clark, Moore and Pakkarato secured second place in the 200-yard medley relay. Hawks, Young, Moore and Pakkarato secured the third spot in the 200-yard free relay.
The Grand County swim team will host a multi-meet on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14. The Red Devils will be on the road from the middle of December until February.
