County OKs new one-way travel, hours at Fins and Things

The Grand County Council on Tuesday voted 5-0 to approve an ordinance that designates one-way travel on Fins and Things 4×4 Trail at the Sand Flats Recreation Area – and daylight use only for a portion of the trail

Sand Flats Director Andrea Brand, with the support of Sheriff Steve White, said the rule restricts the southernmost 2.5 miles for daylight travel only.

The purpose, according to Brand, is due to a number of reasons, but primarily because the Jeep trail traverses three campgrounds and conflicts had erupted. The remainder of the 10-mile trail will remain open to nighttime use.

The Bureau of Land Management’s decision has not been controversial. Establishing the ordinance will give deputies the standing to ticket violators.
