Donald Paul Monniere, 93, passed away Thursday Jan. 23, 2020 at St Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Don was born in Sterling, Colorado March 9, 1926 to Joseph and Addie Mae Monniere. Don was the youngest. He had two brothers, George and Norman, and three sisters, Madeline, Helen, and Doris.
Don served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He later met and married Florence E. Wells on Nov. 8, 1946 in Camden, New Jersey. They were married 73 years.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Worland, Wyoming and started their family. They later moved to Moab, Utah in 1967. where he worked at the Unocal gas plant in Lisbon Valley until he retired.
Don loved to hunt and fish, but mostly fish. He was very active in local churches and became an ordained deacon.
His son, Kenneth Paul Monniere and grandson, Brandon Andrew Smith, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Florence of Moab; son, Michael (Debra) of Idaho; twin daughters Linda Monniere and Lana (Kirt) Trathan of Grand Junction; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Spanish Valley Mortuary. Burial with military rites will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
