Loretta Marie Brandt passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2020 at her home in Elko, Nevada after a long illness. She was 79.
Loretta and twin brother, LeeRoy, were born to James and Matilda Johnson in Eckert, Colorado on April 7, 1940. They had four older brothers and one sister. She grew up in Colorado and graduated from Grand Junction High.
On March 12, 1960 she married Duane Hilgenfeld, who had three children, Robert, David and Cheryl. To this union they had two children, Obie and Shauna. They moved to the Moab area in 1979. They later divorced in 1983.
She married Otto “Buck” Brandt on May 2, 1992, who had five children, Jim, Tony, Debra, Jeff and Bill. They made their home in Monticello, Utah then later moved to the Farmington, New Mexico area.
Loretta was a hard worker. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a love for animals, she always enjoyed the interaction between her, her grandchildren and them. She had a special love for her dog, Toby. She loved to cook and bake, trying lots of new recipes, but was best known for her Sunday fried chicken dinners.
In her later years she loved to go to water aerobics and lunch with her friends. She was a good and caring person, always willing to lend a hand and help, even if it was just sending flowers to brighten someone’s day. She was very creative — making many gifts of cross stitch, crafts and diamond paintings. She loved to read her Bible and loved the Lord. She will truly be missed.
Her husband, Otto (Buck); parents, James and Matilda; brothers, Dalton, Arnold, Don and Duane; and her sister, Betty, preceded her in death.
Her twin brother, LeeRoy (Jackie) Johnson of Fruita, Colorado; son, Obie (Carol) Hilgenfeld of Moab; daughter, Shauna O’Leary of Elko, Nevada; grandsons, Colby Hilgenfeld and Kyle Hilgenfeld; granddaughter, Kayla Morales; and great grandchildren Isaiah, Izabella, Avelina and Alexandria survive her.
