“War of the Worlds” was popular with folks who attended the first Free SyFy Movie night held Feb. 7 at the MARC and Friday’s Feb. 14 flick will be “Fire Maidens of Outer Space.” Here’s the plot – which is perfect for this Valentine’s Day: A team of astronauts lands on a moon of Jupiter to find it populated with beautiful young women looking for mates. An old man explains to the explorers the group’s story, as well as the moon’s dangers, according to IMDb.

Thursday, Feb. 13: Free Movie: “Honeyland,” 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Grand County Library. The last female bee-hunter in Europe, Hatidze lives with her ailing mother in the mountains of Macedonia, making a living cultivating wild honey using ancient beekeeping traditions. When a family of nomadic beekeepers invades her land and threatens her livelihood, Hatidze must save the bees & return the natural balance. This was the most awarded film from 2019’s Sundance Film Festival.

Thursday, Feb. 13: Story Slam: Love Rocks! Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and stories start at 7 p.m. at the MARC. This is an opportunity to tell your personal true story inspired by the theme of the evening, live, on stage, with no notes.

Saturday, Feb. 15: The Red Hot 33K and 55K race is located northwest of Moab just west of Arches National Park. Red Hot runners will have majestic views of the La Sal Mountains to the southeast and breathtaking views of Canyonlands National Park to the west. The Red Hot is recognized as kicking off the ultra running calendar for most trail runners.

Saturday, Feb. 15: Contra dance at the MARC, 8 p.m. Lessons for beginning dancers start at 7:30 p.m. The Moab Community Dance Band with dance caller Peg Harty will perform.

All are welcome and no partner or experience is necessary. Proceeds from the suggested $7 donation benefit music education in Grand County.

Tuesday, Feb. 18: Sheng Zhen Tuesdays with Lisa. Two meditation forms from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., seated from a chair and a standing form taught from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grand Center Vitality Room at 182 North 500 West.

Wednesday, Feb. 19: Moab Poets & Writers meet at 6 p.m. at the Grand County Library, 257 E. Center Street.

Wednesday, Feb. 19: Daughters of the Utah Pioneers meets at 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the historic building between City Hall and Center Street Gym.

Thursday, Feb. 20: Author Event at 6 p.m. Four Corners/One Book, a community-wide reading program welcomes Chuck Greaves, author of Church of the Graveyard Saints at the Grand County Library.
