Carbon County resident and author Kymberly Meile has cancelled an event that had been planned to honor one of the miners who was killed at the potash plant in 1963. Meile is author of the book, “Disaster at Cane Creek.” She has written and planned events to honor the many victims of the explosion.
This August, she had planned to roll out a fundraiser to buy a headstone for the late Pete Sviscsu, and to bring some of his family members to Moab to unveil it. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Meile announced, “we want to keep everyone safe and it’s not good timing to do a fundraiser when so many are out of work.”
She said the event will be rescheduled “when things get back to normal.”
