A Facebook-started rumor of law enforcement officials shooting a man early Friday morning proved to be false after officers used less than lethal means to subdue a man who was holding a knife to his own throat.
Shereldon Cly Yanito, 20, was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of intoxication and disorderly conduct, and minor in possession or under the influence of alcohol.
Local law enforcement officers were called to a domestic violence situation at a home on Red Valley Court. Yanito’s father told deputies and officers that his son had been drinking and picked a fight with him. The older man did not engage with his son, but then he began a fight with his brother, who did.
Yanito left the home, possibly armed with a knife. Police located him at the end of San Miguel Street.
The man walked out from behind a tree with a knife held at his hip before he moved the blade to his throat when officers subdued him and took him into custody, according to the police report.
