The Grand County Red Devils girls basketball team continues to struggle against more experienced schools. They lost to non-conference opponent American Leadership Academy, 17-60, Saturday, Dec. 21, in Spanish Fork.
Grand County High School senior Eli Hazlett signed a letter of intent with Brigham Young University, becoming the first Red Devil athlete in over a decade to commit to a Division 1 school. Hazlett will compete in track.
The Grand County boys basketball team tamed the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers 86-78 on Thursday, Dec. 12, at home.
The Grand County swim team hosted a mini-meet on Friday, Dec. 13, in Moab. North Summit, South Summit and South Sevier competed. Both the boys and girls took second place overall.
The Red Devils girls basketball team lost the last two home games of the year. The Green River Pirates beat Grand 51-26 on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and The Monticello Buckaroos bested Grand 49-24 on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Zella Chloe Ceniceros passed away unexpectedly in late October. On Dec. 3, Grand County High School honored her memory during a Red Devils boys basketball home game. The color purple was the theme. The cheerleading squad wore oversized purple bows in their hair. The basketball team donned purple socks.
The Grand County High School drill team earned the respect of their coach when members attended the Mustang Classic, on Saturday, December 7, at Herriman High School.
The Richfield Invite on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7, at Richfield High School was a successful meet for the Grand County Swim Team. “We were able to swim against a couple of big teams and hold our own,” coach Brian Pierce said in an e-mail. The Grand boys team took second place out of seven competing schools. The Lady Devils earned third place out of eight competing schools.
Grand County High senior and elite cross-country runner Evan Ellison represented Moab well in Saturday’s 37th annual Winter Sun 10K, finishing third out of 183 participants in a race that was dominated by Grand Junction competitors.
The Moab Red Rocks Invitational marked the beginning of the Red Devil wrestling season in a big way on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7, when over 180 male and female grapplers from 14 schools in Colorado and Utah came to Moab.
The Red Devils basketball team dropped a nail-biter 40-38 to the Pinnacle Academy Lady Panthers on Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Moab.
