If you’d like to catch a fish in Utah’s beautiful outdoors — while social distancing, of course — but you don’t have a fishing license, Free Fishing Day on Saturday, June 6, is the perfect opportunity to give it a try.
Beginning Thursday, May 21, Colorado National Monument reopened access to Saddlehorn Visitor Center, Devil’s Kitchen Trailhead Parking, and Cold Shivers Overlook. Rim Rock Drive and all hiking trails are also open.
By state law, DWR officials are authorized to conduct administrative checkpoints on various roadways throughout the year to help prevent the spread of quagga mussels. These are different than mandatory inspection stations at bodies of water and other areas because all vehicles — not just those transporting watercraft — will be directed off the road.
It will focus on endangered species protection, invasive species management, poaching and wildlife trafficking prevention, and nonlethal solutions to human-wildlife conflicts, according to a press release from the department.
