    BLM, USFS offer Christmas tree permits

    On Nov. 4, the Bureau of Land Management in Utah will begin selling non-commercial permits to cut pinyon pine, juniper and fir trees. The U.S. Forest Service will also sell Christmas tree-cutting permits for the Manti-La Sal National Forest from Nov. 18 until Dec. 23 or sold out.

    USFS awards Manti timber sale to Utah company

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service awarded the Black Canyon timber sale, which is located on the Manti-La Sal National Forest, to the Utah firm Timberline. This timber sale will help reduce hazardous fuels on the forest floor as it authorizes the removal of 140,000 hundred cubic feet (ccf) of dead and down trees, according to a statement from the USFS.

    By state law, DWR officials are authorized to conduct administrative checkpoints on various roadways throughout the year to help prevent the spread of quagga mussels. These are different than mandatory inspection stations at bodies of water and other areas because all vehicles — not just those transporting watercraft — will be directed off the road.
