By state law, DWR officials are authorized to conduct administrative checkpoints on various roadways throughout the year to help prevent the spread of quagga mussels. These are different than mandatory inspection stations at bodies of water and other areas because all vehicles — not just those transporting watercraft — will be directed off the road.
It will focus on endangered species protection, invasive species management, poaching and wildlife trafficking prevention, and nonlethal solutions to human-wildlife conflicts, according to a press release from the department.

What looks like dirt in the desert and drylands is actually a forest under your feet. We’re talking about biocrusts – living organisms made of lichens, mosses, fungi, bacteria and green algae – that live on the soil surface on the Colorado Plateau and other places across the Southwest, according to Tracey Stone of The Nature Conservancy.
Six members of the U.S. Congress will meet in Moab for a roundtable discussion of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests, and Mining. The discussion is meant to "examine successes in state management of state and federal public lands in Utah."
Park rangers and other public lands employees interact with the public Friday, Sept. 27, a day ahead of National Public Lands Day. The Moab Information Center hosted the event last weekend. It is the largest single-day volunteer effort for America’s public lands.
Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt in a statement last week said the Bison Conservation Initiative was launched in a new effort to coordinate conservation strategies and approaches for the wild American Bison over the next 10 years.
